The brief

The clients wanted one room where they could sit above the lake without a boat. The pavilion is that room: a living space, a kitchen and two bedrooms held on a post-tensioned beam that disappears into the rock.

Structure

The cantilever is balanced by the stone mass of the bedroom wing behind it. From the water the building reads as a single horizontal line under the larches; from the road it is almost invisible.

Glazing on the lake side slides fully into the walls, so in summer the main room is open on three sides.
